What drives wet basements here
Most wet-basement calls share a short list of causes — we confirm which ones apply on site before we dig.
Hydrostatic pressure. Saturated soils push water toward the path of least resistance: a cold joint, hairline crack, pipe penetration, or the joint where the wall meets the slab. Coatings on the inside face rarely hold against that load through a full wet season.
Roof and yard runoff. Short downspout extensions, clogged gutters, and grading that slopes toward the house reload the same wall after every storm. Fixing discharge is part of the drainage plan when surface water is feeding the problem.
Failed or clogged perimeter drains. Older tile and pipe systems fill with fines. Water rises at the footing instead of leaving the lot. Interior collection can relieve living-space flooding; exterior work may still be needed when wall seepage is the main path.

Is living-space drainage the same as footing membrane work? No. Here we mean drying and draining wet living space. Footing-level exterior membrane and structural footing drainage are a separate scope. Many homes need one path clearly; some need both. We will say which after we see the water pattern.
Do I always need exterior excavation? Not always. Interior drainage and a correctly sized sump solve many floor-water and under-slab pressure cases, especially when exterior access is limited.
Can a coating alone fix a wet basement? Rarely, if hydrostatic pressure or a failed drain is the driver. Coatings do not move water away from the structure.
