LGR (Low Grain Refrigerant) dehumidifiers extract moisture even when the air is already relatively dry—standard home units stop working well once RH drops. Structural drying is about vapor pressure in materials, not how dry the room feels. After bulk water is extracted, moisture remains in porous substrates. Physics moves water from high to low concentration; LGR units create an aggressively dry atmosphere that draws moisture out of the bones of the building.
LGR systems cool intake air below dew point more effectively than conventional refrigerant dehumidifiers, continuing to remove grains of moisture at lower humidity levels. We pair them with air movers for balanced airflow and log readings until impacted materials match control areas. Household dehumidifiers and fans leave slab and stud moisture behind—musty odor and mold follow weeks later.
On site we establish a dry standard from unaffected materials and probe until readings match. The bad advice is declaring a basement dry when a consumer hygrometer says 50% RH but the slab still reads high on a pin meter.
